Facts

  1. Heart disease is the number one killer in this country. It kills more people than all cancers combined
  2. The incidence of heart disease is the same in both men and women.
  3. Diet alone does not prevent heart disease, However a low calorie diet can
  4. Exercise alone does not prevent heart disease (The gentle man who ran a mile in 4 minutes also dropped dead of a heart attack even though he exercised regularly)
  5. 80% of people who have heart disease have the same cholesterol levels as the people who do not have heart disease
  6. The four major risk factors for heart disease are
    1. High cholesterol
    2. High blood pressure
    3. Diabetes mellitus
    4. Smoking
  7. 65% of the population with one or zero risk factors have heart attacks
  8. If you smoke (even if you have low cholesterol) all bets are off. Smokers are at very high risk for having heart attacks and strokes.
